The public recreation park "Humboldthain" opposite the hotel with 22 hectare was led out in 1872 by Gustav Meyer, the first director of gardening in Berlin. He mainly grow foreign species of trees and plants. In world war II the park "Humboldthain" became a bunker with a floor space of 80 square metres. It was useful as a central office for the headquarter and as a military hospital. Today the towers for the anti-aircraft guns are lookout towers.

From 1948 to 1951 the "Humboldthain" was arranged newly and got its contemporary shape with a rose garden, two meadows to lay down, a toboggan-run, children´s playgrounds and an open-air swimming pool. You may find a pecularity for Berlin in this park: a vine-yard. Very special guests of the district Wedding get this vine as a present.
