Brunei's Education System provides opportunities to all its citizens to realise their fullest potential so as to bring into being, an educated and dynamic citizenry whose virtues will complement the needs of the modern Islamic State.
The National Education Policy aims to provide each child with at least 12 years of schooling - seven years of primary education including a year of pre-school, three years of lower secondary and two years of upper secondary, or vocational or technical education.
All schools throughout the nation follow an integrated curriculum as well as uniform public examinations administered according to the level of education, including special needs.
TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING |
1. Nakhoda Ragam Vocational School |
Craft level programmes are offered in the fields of Bricklaying and Concreting, Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical, Electronics, Furniture and Cabinet Making, Painting and Decorating and Plumbing and Pipefitting. |
2. Sultan Bolkiah Vocational School |
Programmes offered are in the fields of Clerical Studies (Account Clerk, Computer Clerk, and General Office Clerk), Dressmaking and Tailoring, Machining, Motor Vehicle Mechanic, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, Vehicle Body Engineering and Welding and Fabrication. |
3. Sinaut Agricultural Centre |
Programmes offered include a one-year Rice Technician, the Brunei National Diploma in Agricultural Engineering, plus courses in Landscape, Horticulture, Project and Propagating Techniques. |
4. The Mechanical Training Centre |
Programmes offered are on the principles of operation, maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment |
5. The Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering |
Courses offered are Pre-National Diploma and National ''Diploma programmes in fields such as Automotive engineering, Computer Studies, Electrical & Electronic engineering, Marine Engineering, Manufacturing engineering, Plant Engineering, Refrigeration and Air conditioning and welding fabrication |
6. Institute Technology Brunei |
Programmes offered are Higher National Diploma courses in engineering. The departments include Business and Management, Computing and Information; Systems and Electrical & Communication Engineering. Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. |
7. Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College |
The National Diploma courses offered include Aircraft Engineering - avionics and airframe, Construction, Estate Management, Geometrics, Interior Architecture, Business & Finance, Secretarial Studies, Computer Studies, Information & Library Management, Travel &Tourism Services, Hotel and Catering Management, Culinary Art, Electronic & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Radio Television & Electronic Technology, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Body Engineering, Fabrication &Welding Engineering, Science. 8. Lambak Kanan Vocational School |
The courses offered are for students who may not be academically gifted but who show potential and ability in craft skills. The entry requirement is completion of the PMB or Form 3. These courses include Bricklaying & Concreting, Electrical & Electronics, Painting & Decorating, Plumbing A Pipefitting and Hair Dressing. |
9. Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre |
This centre (tel: 224-0676/email: piptsal (brunet.bn) offers courses in silver and brass smithing, wood carving, cloth-weaving, plaiting, basketry and songkok making and engraving. Apart from that, students' a re also taught Islamic Studies art and sports. |

1. Maktab Jururawat Pengkan Anak Puted Rashidsh Sa'adatul Bolklah (the PAPRSB Nursing College) |
The Brunei Nursing College, established in 1966 is the only one in Brunei offering professional nursing education in response to the increasing manpower demands of the health sector. In 2001, two new advanced nursing courses namely the Diploma in Anaesthetic Nursing and the Diploma in Ophthalmic Nursing were added. |
2. The Brunei Institute of Geomantic (BIG) |
BIG is an institution that encompasses and represents several professions including land surveyors, hydrographers, land economists, land managers, land valuers, remote sensing scientists, cartographers, photogrammetrists, geographers, urban and rural planners, land valuers, land officers, property and asset managers as well as estate managers among others. |
3. Universiti Brunei Darussalam |
UBD is the only national university in Brunei Darussalam. Since its establishment in 1985, it has successfully graduated thousands of students. UBD has formal links with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Australian International Development Programme (IDP); the Centre for Islamic Studies of Oxford University; the Royal Geographical Society, London; the Universities of Durham, Glasgow,' Kent, Hull, Strathclyde and Birmingham in the UK; the National University of Singapore and the Singapore. |
